Maybe you saw the meme on Facebook or Twitter, thought it was funny and shared it: “Life’s a bitch, don’t vote for one.” Or you’re very angry about the results from Tuesday night: Your conservative mom and dad? Racist bigot swine, and you’ll let them know indirectly via social media. If you’ve done this, you’re part of the problem.
Here’s a friendly reminder:
Jesus Christ died for Donald Trump. He died for Hillary Clinton. Jesus died for Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Greens, and any other political stripe you can paint. On the cross, Jesus was thinking of you, me, Trump, Clinton, and everyone who was and is to come of every tribe, tongue, and nation. The good news is that Jesus did not stay in the grave: He resurrected to defeat death and sin, and offers grace and forgiveness to those who allow Him to reign over their lives.
As the old saying goes: When we stand before the Lord (and we will), He won’t ask if you voted Democrat or Republican. He won’t ask how many campaign calls you made or if you preferred MSNBC or Fox. Instead, He might ask why you called a woman derogatory names or why you wanted all white conservatives dead. He might ask why you held vicious hatred in your heart for Clinton or Trump (or both), two souls He created and dearly loves. Truly, I don’t know what Our Lord will ask, but I have a hunch. What I do know, however, is that for every Christian, it is our desire to hear “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
Have an opinion, keep it civil. We are but dust. Don’t let this election season keep us from Heaven.
